Your Garmin fitness tracker and smartwatch should count steps. That's one of the reasons you bought it. Pretty much every fitness tracker or smartwatch has that ability. If the Garmin is not keeping tabs on your steps, make sure this is not the culprit. Perhaps you inadvertently switched off Activity Tracking.
